I am Karla Ortiz, a Puerto Rican dancer and educator with a deep passion for classical dance, modern dance, and jazz. Originally from Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, I began my dance training at Western Ballet Theatre and Ballet Escenario, where I honed my skills in Ballet-Jazz and other dance styles. As I progressed, I had the opportunity to continue my education and training, eventually earning a Bachelor's degree in Classical Dance Pedagogy (Cuban Technique) from the prestigious Alicia Alonso Dance Institute at Rey Juan Carlos II University (URJC) in Madrid.
In addition to my classical dance training, I am certified in Progressing Ballet Technique and hold a Master's degree in Special Education from Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio (UAX) in Madrid. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Marketing and Commercial Management at EAE Business School, which reflects my desire to expand my knowledge beyond the dance world and into business.
My professional career as a dancer has been enriched through my work with various renowned dance companies. Since 2018, I have had the honor of performing with Ballet de Cámara de Madrid (Spain), Mauro Ballet Company (Puerto Rico), Ballet Arts Dance Company (Florida), Ballet de Catalunya (Barcelona), and Albany Berkshire Ballet (New York). Throughout these years, I have performed principal, soloist, and corps de ballet roles in numerous classical and contemporary repertoires, including iconic roles such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Queen, and Mirlitons in The Nutcracker, Two Willis in Giselle, the Paquita Grand Pas, Raymonda Grand Pas, La Sylphide, Romeo and Juliet, The Pharaoh’s Daughter, and Pas de Deux in The Black Swan, among many others.
